Ardbrae is Green
When Ardbrae was initially built as a home, even then we were Green Minded. Parts of the house and entrance were built with the recycled stone from the original farmhouse. Increased insulation was used and heat retaining K Glass placed in all windows and the remaining hardcore was used for inert fill in place of quarried products. We have 5 acres of gardens and natural woodland and are fortunate that nature has blessed us with native plants such as bluebells, primroses, wild ferns, foxgloves in abundance, we also found hidden wild damson trees, sloes and blackberry bushes. It is a great area for birdwatching with Redkites in our immediate area. We also are fortunate share our land with badgers, foxes rabbits and bats, To minimise our carbon footprint we planted 150 native trees purchased from Clandeboye Conservation, encourage wildlife by putting in a natural pond, bird boxes for the birds and a log pile made to encourage hibernating small animals. We were fortunate to have a deep natural well which we use for irrigation.
Ardbrae grow all their own fruit and vegetables, guests can enjoy the lovely fresh fruits at breakfast also our home made jams made from the fruit. We bake all our own breads cakes scones soda bread etc and source local produce and organic for the remainder of our breakfast requirements. We minimise our waste to landfill by reusing & recycling. We continue to monitor and reduce this. All our green waste, coffee grounds, tea bags egg shells & egg boxes etc all go into our compost boxes even the ash from our biomass boiler which is a great carbon components for good compost. All our lighting is LED/energy saving & all our rooms have TRV’s and rooms are zoned by the latest technology. Our appliances are all A Grade & all our cleaning products are eco friendly organic and chlorine free. We are members of the National Trust and volunteer when we can. We are also volunteers / fosterers for Assisi Animal Sanctuary so you will see lots of little animals with their young staying with us here, have a look at our facebook page for some lovely pictures
